Corey "The Beast" Anderson

The Funky Monkey (MMA) Mixed Martial Arts News interviews undefeated professional mixed martial artist, Corey "The Beast" Anderson.

"My name is Corey Anderson, I am 23 years old, I am 2-0 pro 1-0 Ammy and I train out of Springfield, IL. I was born and raised in Rockton, IL where I was the youngest of four. I was a NCAA finalist in wrestling, 3x collegiate national qualifier, 2x collegiate All American at the heavyweight division; once at Lincoln College where I took 6th in 2010 and 2nd in 2012 at University of Wisconsin Whitewater. I finished my wrestling career with over 150 wins and only 24 loses and a 2x MVP and team captain. I been training MMA for a year now but had a past history in boxing through college where I was 2-0. I am now the Head Assistant Wrestling Coach at Lincoln College, in Lincoln Illinois and part time employee at Holland Trucking and Freight."

1. How did you get in to the sport?
During my 2011-2012 wrestling season, my coach told me he had a special guest for my to workout with. Little did I know this guy would be Ben Askren the current Bellator Champ ready to get a work out in with me. He would come in and work with me and a few of the guys once or twice a week throughout the season. Well when nationals was over I asked Ben about training for freestyle wrestling and he sent me a number to call and a address to meet him at. So I called the number Sunday afternoon and talk to a guy named Duke…. (me not knowing much about MMA didn't know who he was) we talked for bout 10 minutes and he told me he couldn't wait to get me in his gym and get to training. So the following Monday I traveled to the address sent to me and as I walked into the door I saw a sign that read "Roufusports Martial arts Academy" my first thought was… "man I'm in the wrong place, I'm looking for a wrestling gym". I walk into the door to the gym and Ben runs up to me and says "Welcome to Duke Roufus's gym and your new sport". I look around and I see Anthony "showtime" Pettis, Eric Koch, Sergio Pettis, and a bunch of fighters getting it in. And thats how I got in the sport.

2. What's your favorite strike/submission to use in any fight?
My favorite strike combination at the moment would have to be a jab, jab, cross to the stomach, back to the hook up top. I'm not much of a submission guy yet I'm all about the ground and pound.

3. Who is your biggest inspiration?
My inspiration in everything I've done through my whole life has always been my older brother. No one important to anybody else but the reason why I do anything and everything I do! Since I was a kid his drive to be the best at everything he does has always pushed me to push that much harder. And if I had to pick a sport inspiration I'd go with Warren Sapp a maniac on the line and never scared to go up against anyone at anytime, always in the game giving it 150% at all times.

4. Which team are you training with in preparation for your next bout?
I train with the Kennel Fight Club out of Springfield, Il where I train with Bobby Brents ranked in the top 100 hwt fighters in the world, Dustin Jacoby UFC vet, Glory Kickboxing champ, WSOF vet , Kenny Robertson UFC vet, and Brian Foster UFC vet.

5. What is your favorite aspect of MMA? (grappling, striking, clinch work, etc.)
I have two favorite aspects, because my game plan they mess together so well because its what I'm good at. I like to strike and wrestle, because I use my striking to set up my wrestling.

6. What does it mean (for you) to be a fighter?
To be a a fighter to me means to be a Warrior!! A man/woman that steps out in practice/fights everyday and every night to grind it out until the end of it! Non stop, no excuses, no breaks, the whole time with the attitude of a beast. Not taking it easy on your team mates when they get tired, not half assing through training because "you don't feel well", and always staying positive even on the worst days in training or in the cage. And outside of the cage presenting yourself in the most professional manner possible. As fighters when people watch us we automatically get the label of "savages". So its our jobs as well to clean up our name for the name of the sport. In every aspect possible we have to be FIGHTERS!! Fighters for our name, the sport, and ourselves.

7. What separates you from every other fighter?
My mentality to never quit. I've been through so much and so many things throughout my life. So many moments when people telling me I can't, I won't, and I couldn't and no matter what they said I always continued to do what it is I wanted or had my mind set on doing. I snapped my leg in three places during my freshman season in college and going into surgery the Dr. had told me that I wouldn't be able to wrestle again after the surgery from the way everything had broke. Well the day they cut my out of my cast I returned to the mat no rehab or anything. Then two years later I was having problems with my blood pressure and heart rate as an athlete I was forced to go see a Dr. again for safety emergencies. They hooked me up to a EKG machine and did all kinds of test. A week before the national qualifier I get a call from my Dr. telling me I have an irregular heart beat and every time I would start to work hard and my heart rate would rise my heart would stop beating they said. They told me I couldn't wrestle anymore and they'd need to talk to a coach of mine. Well I kept it my little secret till after I qualified and told my assistant coach what was going on and I'll never forget the words he said to me "It's your life, you have to live with your decision whether it be to push forward when times get hard or quit when the times get hard but in the end its all choices you have to live with. But if you want to keep going it'll be our little secrets". The following week I All American'd for the first time in my career. And every since I've always had the attitude to never quit on anything!!!

8. If you could have one dream fight with anyone, who would it be?
I'd want to fight Muhammad Ali, I'd love to see what it'd be like to match against such speed and accuracy!!

9. What do you want to be remembered for at the end of your career?
My handwork, determination, and tenacity to never quit and always go all out no matter what I had to do, where I had to do it, or who I had to do it against.

10. Thus far what is your greatest accomplishment in the sport?
My last fight (june 29th) when I got a short notice call to head out to Grant, Oklahoma and fight Bellator Veteran Myron "The Future" Dennis for the XFL light Heavyweight championship as the main event at the Rage on the River 3 and I ended up defeating him in a 5 round battle by unanimous decision 45-50 all judges for only my 3rd fight 2nd pro. During the battle I got my tooth knocked out but winning a battle never felt greater!

11. Your nickname is 'The Beast' how did you get your nickname?
Cuz everything I do I do it like a Beast! I got shirts and a quote on my walk out shirt that reads "Beastin 25/8" on the front and on the back it says "Cuz 24/7 won't cut it around here" And its not just a quote its a lifestyle that I live everyday! No days off and no breaks!!

12. How do you spend your time when you're not training for a fight?
Training just in case a fight comes through last second or working. I wish I could get the time to go back home and visit my family but I can't get myself to take time off. I want to be ready at all times!

13. Were your family and friends supportive when you decided to enter the world of mma? My brother was the only family member that supports me and my dreams in the sport. My parents think its just crazy to stand in a cage and get your brains beat out. All my friends and old college team mates all support a lot and all waiting for the day I make it to the UFC so they can all purchase their tickets.

14. Whats your game plan for 2013?
My goal for this year is to continue to dominate in the sport of MMA, continue to bust my butt everyday to stand out over every body in my weight class, and to continue to grow and develop as a mixed martial artist bringing all my training and thoughts together to mold myself into the ultimate athlete. And my main goal of this year is to make it to at least the prelims of the UFC by the last card of the year.

15. If you could fight anyone outside of the MMA world who would it be?
The head person of the IOC that decided it would be a good idea to take wrestling out of the Olympics.

16. What are some of your hobbies outside of the ring?
When I'm not doing something pertaining to fighting I like to ride my motorcycle, go golfing, and studying wrestling films.

17. Whats the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
Its between Justin Beiber and Jaden Smith: Never say never or Miley Cyrus: Party in the USA.

18. Do you dig any sports other than MMA?
Wrestling and Golf.

19. Its 10 minutes before you're walking out to the fight, whats going through your head in that moment?
Its almost go time baby! Time to turn the warm up up a notch and get ready to get it in!! Nobody in this arena works nearly as hard as you and its time to go out here and show the whole world what being a Beast is all about!

20. Who and when are you fighting next? My next opponent and next fight is still unknown at the moment

Any final words?
Id like to give a big thanks to all my supporters and sponsors that have been here with me/ for me through the last year as I strive to climb my way up the mma ranking. Thank you Usana Health an Science for the daily vitamins, Miles Tshirt out of Springfield, Il for the printing on my fight gear, BMA Clothing for the hook up of all the top gear and clothing styles out, Lincoln college and Lincoln College Wrestling for there support and availability to the training office, swimming pool, and weight room allowing me to take my training to the next level everyday. All my team mates and coaches at the Kennel Fight for pushing me everyday and showing me the way to the top of the sport. Duke Roufus and the Spartans in Milwaukee for giving me the opportunity to fight in the first place. And last but not least my brother Curtis Anderson for no matter what always having my back and being there to support me no matter what it was I said I wanted to do.

The difference between me and other fighters is I'm always an underdog no matter what. that gives me the push I need to stive against my opponents and beat them. also I'm from a small town and pretty laid back if u see me outside the cage you would never guess I'm a fighter.

I want to be remembered as one of the best and most exciting fighters ever

Tyler Bostick

The Funky Monkey (MMA) Mixed Martial Arts Newsinterviews amateur mixed martial artist Tyler Bostick who holds a 4-2 amateur record fights at Ohio Fighting Championship 17: Freedom when he takes on Connor Hina in the main event Saturday, July 20th 2013 at the Courtyard Columbus West located at 2350 Westbelt Dr., Columbus, OH 43228. How did you get into the sport?
I was introduced to Sean Salmon through my buddy Jayson Young when I was working in an old circuit board company in Columbus.

What's your favorite strike/submission to use in any fight?
As simple as it is my favorite Strike is my jab. Being 6’3” when I finally arrived at LAMMA those guys were beating the hell out of me everytime I got in there. Those guys taught me how to use my length through my jab it has made me 1000 times a better fighter than I was 2 years ago.

Who is your biggest inspiration?
Haha, turns out my biggest inspiration in everything I do is also an ex-girlfriend from way back in HS. In 2007 I was at a bar in Columbus and got into a fight with her new bf and his friends. When it was all said and done she punched me and yelled a phrase at me that I carry in my mind everyday “You are worthless and will never amount to anything”. I definitely have no ill will towards her or any of those guys these days as we were all young and very dumb. But long story short those words inspire me to be something more each day.

Which team are you training with in preparation for your next bout?
I am training with the gym that has become family to me. LAMMA/CAMMA these guys have been there for me through everything. I trust Vince, Solt, Mckee, Boyer, Earnest and every single other training partner there with turning me into the scariest possible human being every time I go to compete in the cage.

What is your favorite aspect of MMA? (grappling, striking, clinch work, etc.) My favorite part would have to be standing up due to my range; however the last 3 of my fights have all ended on the ground.

What does it mean (for you) to be a fighter?
Right now being a fighter means more than one thing to me. On top of training for a big fight I also work full time and go to nursing school full time. So being inside the cage lets me take all my frustration out on a real person with no repercussions.

What separates you from every other fighter
Not having instagram or twitter and not hash tagging the shit out of posts every 5 minutes.

If you could have one dream fight with anyone, who would it be?
I wouldn’t call it a dream fight and I have nothing but respect for the guy, but I’d love to fight Don Germany. I could sit here and say I want to fight that one guy who is 3-3 but why are any of us in the sport if we don’t want to fight the top guys?

What do you want to be remembered for at the end of your career?
At the end of my career I want to be remembered as the guy everyone loves to support because I don’t cause trouble, I don’t beg for opponents just so I can pretty up my record and just a generally tough ass fighter.

Thus far what is your greatest accomplishment in the sport?
Revenge against Itunin, less of an accomplishment and more of just a weight lifted off.

How do you spend your time when you're not training for a fight?
Studying for school and lifting 6 days a week.

Were your family and friends supportive when you decided to enter the world of mma?
Yea everyone has been very supportive, all my life I have been athletic. My first year of track I made I to states. There was a lot of nervous supporter’s haha but they have all stood by me.

Whats your gameplan for 2013?
To win this Title at OFC 17 and maybe get one more fight in August or December.

If you could fight anyone outside of the MMA world who would it be?
Never really thought of it, but I guess on the spot Tom Brady comes to mind

What are some of your hobbies outside of the ring?
Lifting and Gaming(yes I am a huge nerd)

Whats the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
Blah!Blah!Blah by Ke$ha don’t judge me

Do you dig any sports other than MMA?
If it’s a choice between college football and MMA that day, you better believe the Buckeyes will be on!

Its 10 minutes before you're walking out to the fight, whats going through your head in that moment?
It’s just another fight. Are there nerves and negative thoughts? Yes. But at the end of the day I have been here numerous times before and have been very successful. So I just block everything out and get myself amped to fight.

Any final words?
I want to thank all my training partners from LAMMA/CAMMA who have put a ton of work in with me and all the guys at OCSA who I worked with at the start of the year on my BJJ you guys even in a shot time took my game to another level. I also want to thank Tony Ramos and Swollen knuckles clothing for hooking me and my team up with walk out shirts. If you haven’t got your tickets yet for OFC 17 you better get them now and witness one hell of a fight!

This fight is has fight of the year potential written all over it, do not miss this incredible event! Luke holds a pro record of 11-2 is a Bellator veteran and was featured on season 7 of The Ultimate Fighter. It doesn't stop there, Luke also owns 2 restaurants as well as Ronin Training Center, a world class gym, located in Columbus, Ohio.

How did you get in to the sport?
Honestly it was by chance. I had a short stint in college football and when that was over I really felt something missing in my life. Being a competitor was all I had ever known. So I started driving from Bowling Green to Toledo and started boxing. I continued that through the last couple years of college. Then it just seemed like I kept meeting people and training with them that were involved in different aspects of MMA. Even though I had no intentions or aspirations of ever fighting. Then one day I met an MMA guy when I moved back to Defiance Ohio, started training with him for fun and after a few months someone needed a last minute fill in and I said yes. I won that fight pretty easily but I still didnt really see myself as a fighter. After that first fight i just kept getting more offers and kept winning. The rest is history

What's your favorite strike/submission to use in any fight?
I have some things I'm better at than others but i dont really care. Whatever finishes the fight is my favorite technique that night.

Who is your biggest inspiration?
My parents and grandfather in life in general. In MMA it is Rich Franklin. He was the first big name fighter that I was a part of their camp. Ive always really looked up to him not so much for how he fights but because of the way he carries himself outside of the cage.

Which team are you training with in preparation for your next bout?
I do all of my training at Ronin Training Center in Columbus Ohio. Its one big gym where we have everything! MMA, BJJ, Wrestling, S&C and boxing all in one gym

What is your favorite aspect of MMA?
Ive always primarily been a striker but over the last 4 years Ive grown to love grappling. I train with some of the best grapplers in the world and it is something that i have to work really hard at to keep up with some of the studs in our gym

What does it mean (for you) to be a fighter?
Being a fighter is only such a small part of my life. It means a lot to me that I have accomplished what I have to date but there are a lot of other things i would like to be known for than just a fighter.

What separates you from every other fighter?
A couple years ago I would have told you its that I work harder. No I believe I train smarter and have a better understanding of the game than a lot of fighters

If you could have one dream fight with anyone, who would it be?
Never even thought about it. Win or lose when I'm completely done fighting Id like to have someone on my record that was a world champion.

What do you want to be remembered for at the end of your career?
When its all said and done I want to be remembered as a fighter that led by example and put it all on the line. Always exciting and carried himself with class

Thus far what is your greatest accomplishment in the sport?
Honestly Ive done some cool things like being on The Ultimate Fighter and in the Bellator tournament but I dont see myself as having any "great" accomplishments

Do you have a nickname?
My old roommate and training partner tried calling me the Blender but I never ran with it. Earlier in my career I used to just go out swinging and put everything I had behind ever punch kick and takedown. He would say when i stepped in the cage it was like watching a blender tear stuff up.

How do you spend your time when you're not training for a fight?
Im always busy, I own Ronin Training Center and two restaurants. Im married and we have an 8 week old little girl so I'm always busy from the time I wake up till when I go to bed. Whether it be preparing the fight team for upcoming fights, work or family time.

Were your family and friends supportive when you decided to enter the world of MMA?
They've always been supportive. When I first started my mom wasnt diggin it so much but they've never missed a fight. After the first fight my mom has always been the loudest one in the crowd. My family is awesome and has always been there and had my back from the beginning till the end.

Whats your gameplan for 2013?
One fight at a time. I'd love to say I'm going to make this big run but its pretty tough. I have some goals I want to accomplish before the end of the year in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu so Im going to be focusing on preparing for some big tournaments and if I can get another fight or two in that'd be great but I need to be at home a little more with my wife and daughter and these tournaments are going to come first.

What are some of your hobbies outside of the ring?
I know it sounds weird but my only real hobby is training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the Gi. Ive became addicted to it over the last 4 years.

Whats the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
Dude my wife and I share an Itunes account and I couldnt even begin to tell you some of the stuff that would pop up if I hit shuffle.

Do you dig any sports other than MMA?
I watch Ohio State football and BJJ, thats it!

Its 10 minutes before you're walking out to the fight, whats going through your head in that moment?
At that point I just want to get out there and get it over with. When your main eventing cards at that point in the night you just want the whole thing to be done with.

Who are you fighting next?
Marcus Finch at UVC on May 10 in Columbus Ohio at the Aladdin Shrine Center.

Any words for your opponent before you two meet in the cage?
I have absolutely nothing to say to him.

You were on The Ultimate Fighter season 7, describe to us what that experience was like.
I could write you a whole essay on this but in short its one of those opportunities that you have to take and you would never do it again...
I like to say the best worst experience of my life

Any final words?
I want to thank my wife for everything she has done to allow me the time to properly train for this fight. My mom and dad for being so supportive. Everyone at Ronin Training Center! CJ Minton for running my whole camp and managing the gym while while ive been focusing on the fight. My coaches Rob Williams - S&C, Vitor Oliveira - BJJ, CJ Minton and Falcon - Striking and Nikolai Timbs my wrestling coach.

Elvis Sinosic

The Funky Monkey (MMA) Mixed Martial Arts Newsinterviews the legendary Elvis Sinosic

1. How did you get in to the sport?
Elvis – I discovered the sport when a friend brought in a copy of UFC 2 into work. I saw the UFC for the first time and was captivated. Then I decided I wanted to learn Jiu Jitsu. So when I moved to Sydney I found a school that taught it. Then when the first MMA show came to Australia I knew I had to be involved with it. I had my first fight in March of 1997 in Caged Combat 1 (Back then called Australasian UFC).

2. What's your favorite strike/submission to use in any fight?
Elvis – With striking I’ve always enjoyed kicking, I came from a Tae Kwon Do background, and really developed a enjoyment of the low round kick. That would have to be my favourite striking move. In all my matches I’ve won I finished them with some sort of armbar (whether on top or the bottom) so it would be difficult to suggest anything else as my favourite submission.

3. Who is your biggest inspiration?
Elvis -

4. Are you still involved in martial arts? (coaching, still training, etc)
Elvis – Yes I am involved in Martial Arts every day. I have my own gym SPMA, www.spma.net.au, with my business partner and UFC fighter Anthony Perosh. I’m on the mat nearly every day coaching or training. I’m also involved in MMA when I can doing commentary for shows. I am lucky to be able to do what I love so much every day. Martial Arts is my life, my passion and my career. It doesn’t get much better than that.

5. What is your favorite aspect of MMA? (grappling, striking, clinch work, etc.)
Elvis – I really enjoy it all. I go through stages, sometimes I prefer grappling, sometimes striking, sometimes putting it all together for MMA, sometime working specific MMA techniques such as wall walking etc. That’s the great thing about what I do, I get to do it all as we teach BJJ, Muay Thai and MMA.

6. What does it mean (for you) to be a fighter?
Elvis – It just means being able to do what I love.

7. What separates you from every other fighter?
Elvis – Usually a referee. Haha on a serious note my heart. I know that I will never give up. I fight to finish and not just win.

8. If you could have one dream fight with anyone, who would it be?
Elvis – As a fighter there is only one goal, to fight the best and be the best. So for me that would be Jon Jones.

9. What do you want to be remembered for at the end of your career?
Elvis – I really don’t know as I haven’t thought about that too much. I guess as a pioneer of the sport of MMA who showed great heart and courage.

10. What do you feel is your greatest accomplishment in the sport?
Elvis – Just being involved in the sport is an awesome accomplishment. I guess the greatest though is having fought for the UFC LHW Title. Though it would be greater if I’d actually won it.

11. Your nickname is "The King of Rock 'n Rumble" how did you get your nickname?
Elvis- It was given to me after my first ever professional fight. I can’t remember if it was the commentators at the show or the journalists doing the write up afterwards but it has stuck with me ever since. Obviously it is a play on the Elvis Presely the King of Rock n Roll.

12. What have you been up to since your retirement?
Elvis – Mainly just teaching/Coaching and enjoying life.

13. Were your family and friends supportive when you decided to enter the world of MMA?
Elvis – My friends and family were though back then they had no idea what I was talking about. Back then it wasn’t MMA it was NHB (No Holds Barred). My mum was a little concerned but after my first fight she was very supportive.

14. Whats your gameplan for 2013?
Elvis – Take it as it comes. My focus is on growing my gym and the students within. I have some students who will do big things one day and I am looking to give them every opportunity I can. . We have a few guys who have been doing very well, Steve Micallef is one of our top guys he is 6-0 as a middleweight, he’s just returned from time off due to injury and is looking to move to the Welterweight Division. He’s held belts in Middleweight here in Australia. Steve is a BJJ Brown belt with us and has very explosive standup. Once he stepts into the cage again I expect him to have another belt in no time. Luke Standing is 4-0 as a Featherweight. He was supposed to fight for the Belt in Brace but his opponent pulled out at the last moment. Luke will be holding a belt here in Australia before the year is out. Abel Brites is 2-0 as a Lightweight and will be making a statement in his division in the future. One of our heavyweights, Denis Roberts is 3-0 and has recently moved to the US and is training out at AKA. Expect big things from him. He is an international level wrestler, a BJJ Brown Belt under us and has natural aptitude for Boxing. Also training with guys like Cain is going to do wonders for him. I hope to see him on a big show soon. That’s just a quick run down of some of our guys, we have more guys who

15. If you could fight anyone outside of the MMA world who would it be?
Elvis – I have no interest in fighting anyone outside of MMA.

16. What are some of your hobbies outside of the ring?
Elvis – One of my passions is photography. I’ve been really enjoying getting back into it since I stopped competing in MMA. You can check out my facebook page by going to here https://www.facebook.com/ElvisSinosicPhotography. I enjoy spending time with my loved ones, family and friends, just relaxing, hanging out and chatting. I have my pets which are always a pleasure, my dogs, cats, ferrets and cockatoo. I also enjoy doing some gardening to relax. I still enjoy doing my martial arts training and coaching even though it is also my business. I am lucky to be able to work in the sport that I love so much. I also run a BJJ event called Events BJJ, www.EventsBJJ.com which is another way of staying involved in the sport.

17. Whats the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
Elvis – Man tough one... Probably Barbie Girl... I can’t believe I just told you that.

18. Do you dig any sports other than MMA?
Elvis – I enjoy other sports socially but I don’t follow any other than MMA or the sports MMA is made up of, BJJ, Muay Thai, etc.

19. Its 10 minutes before you're walking out to the fight, whats going through your head in that moment?
Elvis – What are we waiting for let’s just get out there and do it. I hate the waiting.

20. Will we ever see you come back for one more fight?
Elvis – I would say it is unlikely. Though not impossible. If the UFC were to ask I’d jump on it. Anyone else would have to make me one serious offer.

Any final words?
Elvis - Thanks for taking the time to talk to me. It’s always a pleasure to catch up and chat to let the fans know what I’m up too. The fans can check out my facebook page, www.facebook.com/king.of.rock.n.rumble, my twitter @ElvisSinosic or my instagram @rocknrumble to see what I’m up to and stay in touch. Aaron Hughes

Interview with amateur mixed martial artist Aaron Hughes, who fights at Ultimate Victory Challenge 23 on May 10th, against Donny Korbel. Catch this fight in Columbus, Ohio at the Alladdin Shrine Center.

How did you get in to the sport?
I got in to the sport after graduating high school in 2007. I started taking bjj classes. My neighbor and best friend actually scheduled a fight first, so we started training together. He taught me boxing and I taught him grappling. After seeing his success I signed up and had my first fight in June 2008.

What's your favorite strike/submission to use in any fight?
I dont have a favorite strike or submission that I use in every fight. Each opponent is different, each fight can be completely different so you have to be proficient in everything to be able to take advantage of the different situations that can occur.

Which team are you training with in preparation for your next bout?
I am doing a lot of training with DiSabato Wrestling & MMA for this fight. They run a hard practice and have very talented guys.

What is your favorite aspect of MMA?
Well my favorite aspect of MMA is that all of those things are combined! At any second you could be striking and then have to stop a takedown or submission. The variety of them all makes it a lot of fun. If I had to choose one though, the grappling portion would be my favorite because of my wrestling background.

What does it mean (for you) to be a fighter?
Well fighting for me is my way of staying healthy and in shape. It is a lot of fun competing, but in order to do well you have to be healthy. Plus it scratches my competitive itch.

What separates you from every other fighter?
Im not really sure what separates me from other fighters. Maybe because I do it for fun. I dont plan on doing this as a career.

If you could have one dream fight with anyone, who would it be?
Oh man, Anderson Silva would be my dream fight. I know I would get demolished but it would be awesome!

What do you want to be remembered for at the end of your career?
At the end of my career I would like to be remembered for being a fighter that put on a good show and was very respectful to each of his opponents.

Thus far what is your greatest accomplishment in the sport?
My greatest accomplishment so far is winning my second title for the UVC. Winning fights feels great, but getting that gold strapped to your waist is so much better.

Your nickname is "Livewire" how did you get your nickname?
Im not really sure how I got this nickname, but my team mate Chio Bays gave it to me after a victory where my lip was torn in half and I still ended up breaking my opponents arm to win.

How do you spend your time when you're not training for a fight?
When I am not training for a fight I am usually working! I work a ton it seems. But in my downtime I like to relax, watch new movies, hang out with my girlfriend and friends.

Were your family and friends supportive when you decided to enter the world of MMA?
Haha no, my family absolutely hated the fact I was going to step in a cage and fight someone. To this day they still hate it, but they support me through it. My friends just love to see someone they know kick some ass haha.

Whats your gameplan for 2013?
Gameplan for 2013 is simple, just win the next fight.

If you could fight anyone outside of the MMA world who would it be?
I am not sure who I would fight outside of the MMA world. Probably the Westboro baptist church for their outrageous religious stance. I can't stand those people.

What are some of your hobbies outside of the ring?
Outside the ring I play video games, a lot of Halo 4 haha. Also hanging out at the bar with my friends. Going to see new movies.

Whats the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
Most embarassing song on my ipod would have to be Call Me Maybe.

Do you dig any sports other than MMA?
Of course, who doesn't love sports? I follow Ohio teams mostly. Cincinnatti reds baseball, Columbus blue jackets hockey. Ohio state football and basketball.

Its 10 minutes before you're walking out to the fight, whats going through your head in that moment?
Right before I fight I am completely calm and relaxed, visualizing what I am about to do. It is serene but also chaos going on inside my head.

Who are you fighting next?
Next fight is for the Ultimate Victory Challenge, UVC 23: Invasion on May 10th at the Aladdin Shrine Center in Columbus, Ohio. My opponent is Donny Korbel.

Any final words?
I would just like to thank everyone involved in my training and my life. If not for them I wouldn't be where I am today.

--My biggest inspiration is my dad. He has taught me everything I know, has trained with me since I was little, and is a fighter. I loved seeing him fight, and watching him train. It always made me want to do it just so I could be just like him. Now I am just as in love with the sport as he is.
4. Which team are you training with in preparation for your next bout?

-- My main training camp is with my own gym and father, Team FKKS(Faglier’s Kempo Karate School). I also have a training session everyday with trainer Demetrius Jones at his own personal fitness and wellness gym, and with Ryan Bowers at Athelite Training Center. I have a few other gyms in Augusta, Ga that I try to work with any time I can.

5. What is your favorite aspect of MMA? (grappling, striking, clinch work, etc.)
-- My favorite aspect of MMA is definitely clinch work. My main background is Kempo Karate which deals with a lot of close quarter combat, so I am very comfortable with the clinch game.

6. What does it mean (for you) to be a fighter?
-- It means everything to me. It is my favorite thing to do, and my favorite sport. I want to follow in my father’s path and become a great professional fighter.

7. What separates you from every other fighter?
-- I think what separates me from other fighters is that it’s a family affair. My entire family is behind me and they all train with me. Our gym is family owned and operated and everyone takes part. I can train with anyone in my family any time in the living room if I wanted...

8. If you could have one dream fight with anyone, who would it be?
-- There is not a specific fighter that I just really want to fight, however, I would love to get to train with Wanderlei Silva. He is my favorite fighter.

9. What do you want to be remembered for at the end of your career?
-- At the end of my career I would like to be remembered as a fearless fighter, and a very humble fighter. I hope to never get cocky or have anyone that doesn’t like me.

10. Thus far what is your greatest accomplishment in the sport?
-- I have a great record and a handful of championship belts, but I think the coolest thing would be that I am currently ranked the number 1 pound for pound fighter in the southeast region of the United States.

11. Your nickname is "The Nightmare" how did you get your nickname?
-- I got that nickname because I really liked the song nightmare from avenged sevenfold, and my dad made a joke at my second fight that I would be my opponent’s nightmare, so that just kind of stuck.

12. How do you spend your time when you're not training for a fight?
-- My life is pretty much the same. I go to college at Georgia Regents University and train everyday regardless of an upcoming fight or not. It’s just what I love to do.

13. Were your family and friends supportive when you decided to enter the world of MMA?
-- Yes very much. Like I said my dad fought for years so it wasn’t a huge shock to anyone that I wanted to do the same. I had already been talking about it for years before I was old enough. As soon as I turned 18 I took my first fight.

14. Whats your gameplan for 2013?
-- May 4th I will fight for FightLab in Charlotte, Nc. After that fight I will be looking at turning pro. By the end of 2013 year I will be a professional fighter.

15. If you could fight anyone outside of the MMA world who would it be?
-- I’m pretty easy to get along with, and I have so many friends I couldn’t count them. I do not have any enemies that I know of so there isn’t really anyone that I particularly have a target on haha

16. What are some of your hobbies outside of the ring?
-- I love being athletic. I play just about all sports except for baseball, just not enough being active for me. I like going to the lake with friends and family and taking the boat out. Knee boarding, tubing, wakeboarding, skiing, just riding in the boat... It is all really fun. I also like to work on vehicles!

17. Whats the most embarrassing song on your iPod?
-- Well I have never owned an iPod, couldn’t afford one, but I have an mp3 player with a lot of songs and I think the most embarrassing song is a love song in Spanish I downloaded that I had to memorize for my Spanish class at school. Everyone laughs when I explain that to them.

18. Do you dig any sports other than MMA?
-- Yeah, I did a lot in high school. I played football my first two years, played soccer all 4 years and was team captain, I ran cross country and competed at a state level, I was on the swim team and dive team, I was captain of both, and went to state for diving. I was in NJROTC and was company commander, shot on the rifle team, went to area 12 championships, and qualified for nationals. I was on the drill team and the athletic team, and went to area 12 championships. Like I said before I love any sports haha

19. Its 10 minutes before you're walking out to the fight, whats going through your head in that moment?
-- At that time I start to be calm and nervous at the same time. But once you they call my name and I am walking out the nerves go away and its all excitement. My favorite part is when they close the cage door behind me and it’s just me and the other guy.

20. Who are you fighting next?
-- Next fight is against the FightLab Champion Salah Hemidach at Fight Lab 31 in Charlotte, Nc on May 4th, 2013. I’m planning to bring home another title belt.

21. Any Final words?
-- I would like thank all my training partners, all friends and family, and all sponsors. I’d like to thank my biggest and best sponsor Brotein Bars. They are a relatively new protein bar company. Best protein bars out there you gotta check em out!!
